Young Talent art awards presented

The 22nd annual Young Talent Purchase Awards presented by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and this year's wimmers are Gifford Myers and Don Sorenson. Each wins $3,000 in exchange for having one of his works selected for the museum's permanent collection. They also receive one-person shows as part of the museum's Gallery 6 series.

Only artists under 35 and under are eligible and thjis year's winners made it just under the wire. Daid Myers, 35, "I'm just so pleased to be considered a young artist."

The artists were chosen by the curatorial staff of the museum. The award ceremonies were yesterday at Chaya Brasserie in West Hollywood, a new restaurant designed by architect and art collector Elyse Grinstein.

A Sculptor and a Painter Win Young Talent Awards

Gifford Myers and Don Sorenson are winners of the County Museum of Art's 1984 Young Talent Purchase Award.

Announcement of the 22nd annual award was made Sunday afternoon at Chaya Brasserie, a restaurant where museum supporters and artists gathered for the event.

Winners of the award each receive $3,000 in return for a work of art to be selected for the museum's permanent collection within three years. They are also primised a solo show in the museum's ongoing Gallery Six program of contemporary art exhibitions.

Myers, 35, is best known for small ceramic works satirizing urban conditions...

Sorenson, also 35, is a graduate of Cal State Northrige. He has compiled an extensive exhibition record, showing his paintings at Nicholas Wilder and Roy Boyd galleries and Mout St. Mary's College.
